Your career is an investment that grows over time!
Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing, opaque and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with over 4 million users who trust us with more than $100 billion in assets.
Our teams ship often and make an impact with groundbreaking ideas. We're looking for talented people who keep it simple and value collaboration and humility as we continue to create inclusive and high-performing teams where people can be inspired to do their best work.
About the Role
We’re looking for a VP, Communications to lead Wealthsimple’s communications function at a pivotal stage in our growth. This role will own the narrative of who we are. You’ll set the strategy and roll up your sleeves to execute, shaping how our story is told inside and outside the company. This is not a traditional communications role.
We need a builder who thrives in fast-moving environments, knows how to simplify complexity, and can turn business strategy into clear, compelling messages that drive trust, engagement, and brand strength.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Set Strategy: Define and execute Wealthsimple’s communications strategy across external audiences.
- Lead the Function: Build and manage a small and high-performing communications team spanning external comms, media relations, and executive communications. This includes issues, crisis management, marketing and product communications, etc.
- Executive Communications: Partner closely with our CEO and senior leaders to shape narratives, thought leadership, board-level communications, and support investor messaging as needed.
- Media & PR: Build and deepen relationships with top-tier Canadian and U.S. media, proactively shaping the narrative and managing crises with speed and clarity.
- Issues & Crisis Management: Anticipate risks, manage sensitive moments with judgment, and ensure consistent, values-driven messaging under pressure.
- Cross-Functional Storytelling: Partner with Marketing, Regulatory, Government Affairs, Product and Finance teams to tell Wealthsimple’s story in a way that differentiates us and builds long-term brand equity.
- Internal Comms: Partner closely with our Employee Experience and Culture team to ensure our people are informed, aligned, and inspired—ideating on channels and rituals that reinforce our culture of excellence and clarity.
What you’ll bring:
- 12+ years of experience in communications, including at least 5 years leading teams, managing agency budgets.
- Experience in high-growth, high-scrutiny environments (tech, fintech, financial services, or similarly regulated industries). A strong media network and track record of managing national and international press.
- Exceptional writing skills—you can distill complex, technical, or regulated topics into clear, human language.
- Proven ability to partner with executives and boards, including preparing for investor or regulatory conversations.
- Comfort with ambiguity and speed—able to move quickly, prioritize, and adapt in a fast-changing environment.
- Leadership experience building and scaling high-performing communications teams.
