About the role

At Pleo, we believe that onboarding is more than just a first impression – it’s the foundation for trust, engagement, and success. That’s why we’re on a mission to make onboarding seamless, intuitive, and impactful for every user. We want our customers to feel like they’ve unlocked something magical from the moment they start using our platform.

And that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer who blends hands-on design expertise with a knack for strategy and collaboration. Someone who can tackle big-picture challenges while sweating the details to craft experiences that connect, engage, and delight.

You’re not just a designer – you’re a system thinker, a mentor, and an advocate for users. You see friction as an opportunity to innovate, and you know how to balance user needs with business goals to create designs that just work.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design onboarding experiences that actually work. Make it smooth, make it intuitive, and make it impactful. Help users go from "What do I do now?" to "Wow, this is awesome!" faster than they expect.
  • Get your hands dirty. You’ll design key flows, build prototypes, and polish those pixels like it’s an art form. This isn’t a spectator sport – you’ll lead by example.
  • Experiment like a scientist, but cooler. A/B tests, data insights, quick iterations – you’ll find what works and keep refining it. Fail fast, win faster.
  • Connect the dots with overarching vision. Tie self-serve and sales-led onboarding into a seamless journey that feels like magic for the user (but we know it’s really just great design).
  • Lift the team up by sharing your knowledge, giving feedback that’s actually useful, and helping the team do their best work. We’re all in this together.

What you’ll bring

  • You care about the details. Like, obsessively. If something feels “off,” you can’t sleep until it’s fixed. Good enough isn’t in your vocabulary.
  • Your work solves real problems. It’s not just pretty – it makes things easier, faster, and more intuitive for real people. You simplify the messy and make the complex feel effortless.
  • You see the big picture. You think in systems, not just screens, making sure everything you touch fits into the broader product experience.
  • You truly get users. You dig deep to understand what they need, even if they can’t articulate it. Surface-level feedback isn’t your thing.
  • Ambiguity doesn’t scare you. You’re the kind of person who thrives when things are undefined. You figure it out, find the path forward, and bring others along with you.
  • Data isn’t optional. You know when to trust your gut and when to rely on numbers. Experiments, insights, and metrics? That’s your playground.
  • You lead without a title. Your work inspires others, your feedback makes them better, and you raise the bar just by showing up.
  • You’re here to make an impact. It’s not about shipping for the sake of shipping – you care about outcomes for users and the business.
  • You make the team better. Your presence lifts everyone up. You set the standard, share your knowledge, and push us all to be our best.

Why join us?

Working at Pleo means you're working on something very exciting: the future of work. Our mission is to help every company go beyond the books. Pleo itself means ‘more than you’d expect’, and it’s been the secret to our success over the last 8 years. So it’s only fitting that we’d pass this philosophy onto our customers to help them make the most of their finances.

We think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. Finance teams shouldn’t be siloed from the rest of the organisation – they should work in unity with marketing, sales, IT and everyone else.

Speaking of working in unity, our values tell the story of how we work at Pleo. We have four core values, the first of which is ‘champion the customer’, which means we address real pain points that businesses face. Next up is ‘succeed as a team’, which highlights how our strength lies in our diversity and trust in each other. We also ‘make it happen’ by taking bold decisions and following through to deliver results. Last but not least, we ‘build to scale’, creating lasting solutions that address today’s challenges and anticipate tomorrow’s needs.

So, in a nutshell, that's Pleo. Today we are a 850+ team, from over 100 nations, sitting in our Copenhagen HQ, London, Stockholm, Berlin, Madrid, Montreal and Lisbon offices —and quite a few full-time remotes in 35 other countries! Being HQ'd out of Copenhagen means we're inspired by things like a good work-life balance. If you don't work in the office with us, we'll help you set up the best remote setup possible and make sure you still have time to connect with your team.
