Director of Software Engineering - Public Cloud Platform (FEDX)
Location: Hyderabad or Bengaluru, India
As Director of Engineering for the FEDX (Falcon Easy Platform Experience) APAC org, you will be responsible for owning and managing core capabilities such as FEDX Controlplane team, Falcon Approvals, FOX (Falcon Onboarding Experience). Also expand co-ownership on Addon, FBOT (Falcon Build Orchestration), and Experience Team (CLI/Innerloop/Activities), and AI Enablement Team. This is a very highly visible, strategic role for RADX org, and growth potential very high, as we are shifting co-ownership model between APAC and AMER. You will lead and scale our APAC engineering organization responsible for architecting, developing, and delivering best-in-class distributed systems platforms for automating critical infrastructure lifecycle operations across Salesforce's entire public cloud fleet. You will drive the AI-centric technical vision and execution strategy while building and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
In this role, you will partner closely with product management, architecture, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver solutions that enable thousands of Salesforce engineers to move faster and more effectively. You will establish technical excellence, operational rigor, and engineering culture while overseeing systems that operate across multi-substrate systems (AWS, GCP, GovCloud, AliCloud) seamlessly.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Building
Build, lead, and scale multiple engineering teams (10+ engineers) across MTS, SMTS, and Lead Engineer levels in Hyderabad and Bengaluru
Define and execute hiring strategy to attract top-tier distributed systems talent in India
Mentor and develop engineering leaders (Engineering Managers and Staff+ engineers) to build a strong leadership pipeline
Foster a culture of AI innovation, ownership, and technical excellence with emphasis on AI-augmented development practices
Drive career development, performance management, and retention strategies for the organization
Technical Strategy & Execution:
Define and drive the multi-year technical roadmap for public cloud platform infrastructure automation
Champion adoption of AI tools (Cursor, Claude, Agent SDK) to dramatically improve engineering velocity and reduce cycle times by 50%+
Establish architectural principles and best practices for building resilient, scalable distributed systems across AWS, GovCloud, GCP, and Azure
Drive technical decision-making on critical architecture choices, technology selections, and platform investments
Ensure high engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, and operational excellence practices, enforced via SDLS AI agents
Operations Excellence & Delivery:
Own end-to-end delivery of platform capabilities supporting infrastructure operations across multiple public cloud domains and regions
Establish and maintain SLAs/SLOs for mission-critical services running 24x7 across global data centers
Drive operational metrics, telemetry, and data-driven decision making to continuously improve system reliability and performance
Balance feature delivery, production support, technical debt reduction, and innovation investments
Implement and optimize engineering processes leveraging Agile methodologies and Test-Driven Development at scale
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration:
Partner with Product Management to define product strategy and prioritize high-impact initiatives
Collaborate with peer engineering directors across regions (US, EMEA) to ensure global platform consistency
Interface with executive leadership to communicate progress, risks, and resource needs
Build strong relationships with internal customers (infrastructure teams, application teams) to understand pain points and drive solutions
Represent the organization in technical forums, architecture reviews, and company-wide initiatives
Innovation & Technical Debt Management:
Drive innovation initiatives including AI-powered SDLC automation, next-generation orchestration, and platform modernization
Establish frameworks for identifying, prioritizing, and systematically reducing technical debt
Promote experimentation and prototyping culture while maintaining production stability
Stay ahead of industry trends in cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and AI-assisted development
Required Skills / Experience:
Leadership Experience:
12+ years of software engineering experience with 5+ years in engineering leadership roles (managing managers)
Proven track record of building and scaling engineering organizations from 10 to 20+ engineers
Experience hiring, developing, and retaining top engineering talent in competitive markets
Strong people leadership skills with demonstrated success in coaching, mentoring, and growing technical leaders.
Technical Expertise:
Deep expertise in distributed systems architecture, design patterns, and trade-offs at scale
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native architectures
Strong understanding of public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their infrastructure services
Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and GitOps practices
Knowledge of RESTful APIs, microservices architectures, and event-driven systems
Engineering Excellence:
Track record of delivering large-scale, mission-critical distributed systems serving thousands of users
Experience establishing engineering best practices, code quality standards, and operational excellence frameworks
Strong background in Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
Experience with telemetry, observability, and data-driven operational decision making
Understanding of Test-Driven Development, automated testing strategies, and quality assurance practices
Business & Communication Skills:
Excellent communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
Strategic thinking with ability to translate business goals into technical roadmaps
Experience managing budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships
Strong program management skills with ability to drive complex, multi-quarter initiatives
Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
Desired Skills:
Programming understanding in Python/ Java/ Go, or similar languages with recent hands-on coding experience via AI tools
Experience driving AI-augmented development practices using Claude, Cursor, and modern AI development tools
Deep knowledge of open source distributed automation frameworks (Docker, Kubernetes operators, ArgoCD, Spinnaker, etc.)
Experience with chaos engineering, resilience testing, and site reliability engineering practices
Background in platform engineering, developer experience, or internal tooling organizations
Experience working in global, distributed engineering organizations across multiple time zones
Track record of driving cultural transformation and engineering process improvements
Experience with compliance requirements (SOC2, FedRAMP, GDPR) in regulated cloud environments
Contributions to open source projects or active participation in technical communities
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field

Year 1: Establish team structure, hire key leaders, define technical strategy, and deliver 2-3 high-impact platform capabilities
Year 2: Scale organization to target size, reduce infrastructure operation cycle times by 40%+, achieve 99.99% platform availability
Year 3: Position the team as a center of excellence for distributed systems, drive significant AI-driven productivity gains, enable seamless multi-cloud operations
Note: This role requires occasional travel to US offices and participation in global on-call rotations for critical P0 incidents.
