About the team

The Email Security & Network Defense (ESND) team aims to deliver exceptional email, deception, and service edge protection. This is accomplished through innovation, automation, and Agile excellence, ensuring a secure and efficient environment for the organization. ESND aims to reduce security and business risk, leveraging industry best practices and cutting-edge technologies to set the standard for excellence.

About the position

We are seeking a talented Systems Engineer to join our team in building and supporting Enterprise Email and Network Edge Security Services. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of network and email security concepts and technologies, including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC. Experience with tools like Proofpoint, Gmail and SASE platforms would be an advantage as well as a keen interest in staying current with the latest security threats and anomalies.

  • Foundational Environment: Understanding of security principles within an enterprise environment (internship, apprenticeship or 1-2 years of experience preferred).

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Technology Curiosity: Interest in exploring and staying current with emerging email security technologies and vendor landscapes.

  • Documentation Skills: Ability to assist in the creation and maintenance of clear technical documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • User Support: Experience (or strong aptitude) for providing high-quality support and educating users on security best practices.

  • Data Awareness: Ability to collect and organize security metrics to assist in team reporting and performance analysis.

  • Policy Support: Collaborative mindset with an interest in learning how internet access policies and web controls are developed and applied.

  • Process Improvement: A proactive approach to identifying potential efficiencies in day-to-day security workflows and systems.

  • Exposure to Deception: Basic familiarity with the concept of Deception Technology (e.g., honeypots or canary tokens) is a plus.

  • Core Fundamentals: Solid understanding of core email protocols (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC). Familiarity with enterprise tools like Proofpoint, Gmail, or SASE/Zscaler is a significant advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic proficiency with scripting languages such as Python

  • Basic proficiency with Linux/Unix command prompt and shell scripting

  • An AWS, security or network certification

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain email security measures to protect against spam, phishing, malware, and other email-borne threats.

  • Assist in the optimization of email security platforms such as Proofpoint.

  • Monitor email traffic for suspicious activity and security incidents.

  • Respond to and investigate email security incidents, coordinating with the incident response team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Security, IT, and CSIRT, to enhance email security controls.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for email security processes and procedures.

  • Stay current with the latest email security threats, trends, and technologies.

  • Provide support and guidance to users on email security best practices.

  • Analyze and report on email security metrics and performance.

  • Identify and implement improvements to email security systems and processes.

  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of new email security technologies and vendors.

  • Support and maintenance of secure internet access solutions, including SASE architectures.

  • Monitor and analyze internet traffic for security threats and anomalies.

  • Collaborate on the development and enforcement of internet access policies and controls.

  • Build and deploy honey tokens across the enterprise environment.
