Job Description

About the Role

The charter of the Design Systems team is to develop the core building blocks that make up the various Hinge Health mobile app user interfaces. As a software engineer on the Design Systems team, you'll use your knowledge of TypeScript, React, React Native, HTML and CSS to build and improve upon Hinge Health's design system and UI component libraries. We aim for our design system libraries to be:

  • Aligned between design and code

  • Accessible, localized, and performant

  • Consistent in look and feel, content, and functionality across the app

You'll work closely with other engineers and designers within the Design Systems team, as well as with other teams to integrate components into various products, including Hinge Health's core mobile app, customer-facing web products, and other internal tools. The ideal candidate has had experience turning Design System Guidelines into reusable UI components for Engineering and has maintained said components over time. You are fascinated by UI development and are driven by creating visually delightful user experiences. You can collaborate equally well with Designers and Engineers. You possess strong critical thinking and communication skills.

We enjoy a continuous deployment DevOps culture, and take owner-operator pride in supporting our code in production. Our production systems rely on React Native, React, Node.js, TypeScript, Nestjs, GraphQL, Docker, Rails, AWS, Postgres, Redis, Apollo, and Redux. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA.

What You'll Accomplish

  • Build new and refactor existing UI components that are modular, extensible, well-tested, and accessible.
  • Collaborate with other Mobile Engineers in establishing best practices for component and UI development
  • Create documentation and guidance to facilitate library adoption by other teams
  • Solve cross-platform design problems at scale in collaboration with Design partners
  • Actively participate in code and design reviews

Hinge Health Hybrid Model

We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days per week, for the full 8 hours of a typical business day. The San Francisco office has a dog-friendly workplace program.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical degree
  • 2+ years of full time professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience with UI development with React Native
  • 2+ years of experience in the full software development life cycle, with a focus on mobile development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to re-usable UI component libraries

  • Passion for improving the developer experience of engineers utilizing the design system

  • Familiarity with inclusive design and accessibility best practices

  • Strongest attention to detail, DRY code style, and pattern based execution

Compensation

This position will have an annual salary, plus equity and benefits. Please note the annual salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. The annual salary range for this position is $121,600 - $182,400.
