Harness is the AI Software Delivery Platform company, led by technologist and entrepreneur Jyoti Bansal (founder of AppDynamics, acquired by Cisco for $3.7B). Harness has raised approximately $570M in funding and is valued at $5.5B, backed by leading investors including Goldman Sachs, Menlo Ventures, IVP, Unusual Ventures, Citi Ventures, and more. As AI accelerates code creation, the real bottleneck has shifted to everything after the code – testing, deployments, application security, reliability, compliance, and cost optimization. Harness brings AI and automation to this “outer loop,” helping teams ship software faster while maintaining security and governance throughout the entire software delivery lifecycle.

Powered by Harness AI and the Software Delivery Knowledge Graph, the Harness Platform applies deep context and intelligent automation across the software delivery lifecycle with governance and policy-driven controls embedded throughout the platform.

Over the past year, Harness powered over 185M deployments, 82M builds, 18T flag evaluations, 8M security scans, 9.1B optimized tests, 3T protected API calls, and helped manage $2.8B in cloud spend — enabling customers like United Airlines, Morningstar, and Choice Hotels to accelerate releases by up to 75%, reduce cloud costs by up to 60%, and achieve 10x DevOps efficiency.

With a global team across 14 offices and 25 countries, Harness is shaping the future of AI software delivery — and we’re looking for exceptional talent to help us move even faster.

About the role

Harness is building a modern, engineering-driven documentation organization to support a fast-growing product portfolio and global customer base. We are looking for a Senior Documentation Engineer who can independently drive high-quality documentation across complex feature areas while contributing to the evolution of documentation standards and practices.

This role goes beyond writing feature guides. You will own significant documentation areas end-to-end, partner deeply with engineering and product teams, and help raise the overall quality and maturity of the documentation organization.

What you will do

Own documentation for complex features and modules

  • Lead the full documentation lifecycle for medium-to-large features or product areas, from discovery and planning through publication and ongoing maintenance.
  • Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers to understand technical context, user workflows, edge cases, and intended use cases.
  • Ensure documentation reflects not only how features work, but also why they exist and how they fit into broader customer journeys.

Drive documentation quality and usability

  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and usability issues across documentation and proactively drive improvements.
  • Improve content structure, flow, prerequisites, examples, and troubleshooting guidance to reduce user friction.
  • Apply documentation standards consistently and contribute to refining templates, style guidance, and best practices.

Work effectively in a docs-as-code environment

  • Contribute documentation through Git-based workflows, including pull requests, branching strategies, and structured reviews.
  • Use Markdown and documentation tooling confidently to produce well-structured, maintainable content.
  • Participate in improving documentation workflows, automation, and review practices that increase quality and efficiency.

Influence cross-functional execution

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Support, and DevRel to ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with customer needs.
  • Raise documentation requirements early in the feature lifecycle and help align timelines between product releases and documentation delivery.
  • Anticipate areas of confusion or user impact and ask the right questions to clarify scope and behavior.

Contribute to team and documentation maturity

  • Support and mentor Documentation Engineers through peer reviews, feedback, and sharing of effective practices.
  • Help improve team processes by suggesting practical enhancements to workflows, planning approaches, or content organization.
  • Share learnings from customer feedback, support trends, and usage patterns to inform documentation improvements.

What we are looking for

Core qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in technical documentation, developer documentation, or product documentation.
  • Proven experience in independently owning documentation for complex features or product areas.
  • Strong ability to understand technical systems and translate them into clear, structured, and user-focused documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain both how something works and why it matters in real-world use cases.
  • Experience working closely with engineers and product managers to gather and validate technical information.
  • Strong written communication skills with a focus on clarity, structure, and usability.

Required technical skills

  • Solid experience working in a docs-as-code environment, including Git-based contribution and review workflows.
  • Strong working knowledge of Git, version control concepts, and Markdown.
  • Comfortable using task tracking systems such as JIRA to manage documentation work and align with product delivery.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in SaaS, cloud, DevOps, developer tools, or security product documentation.
  • Experience in improving documentation quality or structure at a team or module level.
  • Exposure to documentation analytics, customer feedback loops, or support-driven documentation improvements.

How you work

Customer-aware and detail-oriented

You write with a clear understanding of user goals, common confusion points, and decision-making paths. You care deeply about clarity, accuracy, and usability.

Independent but collaborative

You can drive your work with minimal supervision while staying aligned with peers across product, engineering, and documentation.

Growth and impact-focused

You continuously refine your craft, seek feedback, and look for opportunities to improve both documentation and the way the team works.
